I live in Chicago and am an adult.
I bring this up because I've noticed there are children on this site. If you're under the age of 18, please don't ask for a mutual friending. No disrespect intended, but that just looks and feels
wrong. I hope you'll understand.
The usual background stuff - I studied Mathematics and Physics in undergrad, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering in grad school, and that might show in some of the critiques I'll write. Graduate school did me no favors financially - I'm stuck living below the poverty line. Also - yes, I really am Jewish; no, not all Jews have names like Abramowitz or Weiss, just the ones from Central and Eastern Europe; and no, I'm not going to apologize to you for that. I've noticed some of the Jew bashing on DA and no, I don't think it's cute or funny.
This, for the moment, is what I've decided to be the successor to my page on Flickr. No, I haven't been thrown off that network - my account still exists there - but I have seen what the new layout is going to be, and the resulting navigability issues are going to be severe enough that I felt that the time to move had come, really, before I'd even had the chance to really get going.
Most frustrating, but sometimes, all one can do is give up.
This isn't where I'll be posting my movie reviews, and given the nature of those reviews, you shouldn't want it to be. Note that my ID is
movie-reviewer, not "movie-reviews" - which is not to say that this page will have nothing to do with movies. What you're often going to see are somewhat derivative works - not so derivative as to even approach a violation of copyright law - in which I do an homage to somebody else's style, or a variation on something he or she did. I don't have a paid account, so videos will have to go somewhere else, but you should expect to see some writing, at some point.
I said that you shouldn't wish to see my movie reviews on this page. There's a reason for that - to the best of my knowledge, DeviantArt doesn't offer blog cuts and for the kind of review I'll be doing, those are needed.
On my main blog, my focus will, as my nickname suggests, be on discussing movies, offering separate commentary for those who haven't seen the movie and are trying to decide whether or not to do so, and those who have and would like to see somebody do a free form after the fact ramble about it. So you see the problem - we probably won't have seen the same movies. What happens if, as you go to my blog post about one of the movies I've seen, you scroll over the entirety of the blog post I wrote about a movie that you didn't see? That's not going to be good.
These are reviews written by somebody who, while reasonably well educated, is not a movie geek, ones that I hope will be a little less pretentious than those written by a fellow resident of Chicago who once claimed that Iago, the parrot, was a stand-in for Israel, in Disney's Aladdin, which he said could be seen as an allegory about nuclear power. Please. On the other hand, there are many who could and will write about this subject with a far greater depth of knowledge, so there is a tradeoff.

No strange political or cultural agendas, no fear of being seen enjoying something that others say is too simple or not simple enough, just a sharing of a love (or dislike) of something for what it is. Plus some photos and essays, and grossly amateurish videos of my own, perhaps, elsewhere, as I said.
Your can follow
my uploads to or my list of
